Fostering Academic Success for Dual-Enrolled Students

Description: The number of high school students also enrolled in college courses is increasing significantly. College and university professors recognize those students struggle with several aspects of classroom and professor expectations. For example, students may not heed classroom policies such as those addressing attendance, late work, and communications with faculty. This presentation will share tips for how school counselors can assist in preparing students for success as they embark on dual-enrolled or college-in-the-high school classes. The content is also relevant to high school students intending to enroll in college courses in the future. Counselors in attendance will also have the opportunity to book a future date for Dr. Girardi to visit their schools, either in person or virtually, to share these insights directly with students.

Presenter Bio: Dr. Tamara Girardi is an Associate Professor of English at HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College where she teaches writing and literature online. She has a PhD in English from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and studied fiction at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. As a college professor, she looks to share solution-focused ideas for the struggles she sees dual enrolled students.  

Additional Information: Pre-registration is required and will be open through the end of the day on August 22. A Zoom meeting link will be emailed out to all registrants the day before the workshop. A CE certificate will be emailed to those in attendance after the event.

The workshop is free to OSCA members and $10 for non-members. Please note that non-members who still have an outstanding balance will not be provided with a CE certificate.
