Emerging Leader Program


The Emerging Leader Program is an opportunity for OSCA to identify potential leaders who get an introduction to service on the board. OSCA emerging leaders attend board meetings, assist with committees and learn the ins and outs of the organization. Up to five (5) emerging leaders are selected each year.

Criteria: To serve as an emerging leader, one must

  • Be a member of both the Ohio School Counselor Association and the American School Counselor Association
  • Possess a valid school counselor license and be employed as a school counselor or counselor educator.
  • Not be (or have been) an appointed or elected officer of OSCA
Responsibilities: Emerging leaders must serve a term of two years with expectations of completing the following responsibilities:
  • Attend at least two OSCA Board meetings a year
  • Assist at the All Ohio Counselors Conference
  • Provide assistance at other OSCA events
  • Communicate regularly with the Emerging Leader mentors
  • Serve on an OSCA standing committee
Benefits: OSCA emerging leader(s) will receive the following benefits:

  • Opportunity to earn professional development hours
Application Process: Individuals interested in becoming an Emerging Leader must complete an online application. Applications generally open late fall each year and a committee will review all applicants and select Emerging Leaders each year.
