What insights should we gain regarding the intersection of youth, social media, and cyberbullying in today's digital era? Social media platforms wield substantial influence in shaping the social, cultural, and educational landscapes for young individuals. Our youth utilize these platforms to engage with peers, express themselves, and exhibit their creativity. Nonetheless, they also harbor potential for fostering social comparison, cyberbullying, and diminishing self-esteem.

27 Minutes Campaign
Students at Olentangy High School, spearhead the 27 Minute Campaign, a youth-driven project. This initiative seeks to raise awareness among peers and parents about the risks and challenges posed by social media. Prompted by the loss of a classmate who was targeted by an online predator, the campaign shares personal accounts and important insights into the complexities of social media. They will share how they created a campaign utilizing posters, a podcast episode, and more to engage their classmates.
Justin Patchin, PhD
Dr. Patchin is a professor of criminal justice at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and co-founder and co-director of the Cyberbullying Research Center with Sameer Hinduja, PhD. He is the author or co-author of nine books and numerous academic and professional articles on adolescent behaviors online. His first book, co-written with Dr. Hinduja, “Bullying beyond the Schoolyard: Preventing and Responding to Cyberbullying”, was named Education Book of the Year in 2009 by ForeWord Reviews. The third edition of this book came out in 2023. The book “Words Wound: Delete Cyberbullying and Make Kindness Go Viral” was written to help teens navigate challenging online problems in a positive way. Dr. Patchin has spoken at the White House and the FBI Academy on the matter of online behavior and safety. He has also appeared on CNN, NPR, and in the New York Times to discuss the issues associated with teens use and misuse of technology.
Sarah Adams, MD
Dr. Sarah Adams is a pediatrician at Akron Children’s Hospital with more than 25 years of expertise to her practice. Passionate about transforming family dynamics in media usage, health and wellness, bullying prevention, and adolescent medicine, she is deeply invested in improving the well-being of children and families. Her dedication to community outreach extends to promoting healthy lifestyles for children and adolescents, evidenced by her initiative in launching the podcast "Growing Up with Dr. Sarah" and her speaking engagements at various forums.
