Description: Join Dr. Derek Lee of The Hope Institute for a session that will help attendees understand the foundation of suicidal ideation and the impacts on students as early as elementary school and why traditional systems struggle with effectiveness. Attendees will also learn about the difference between treatment and triage and what should be expected from treatment outcomes. Lastly, Dr. Lee will explain how students can access treatment, what they can expect and how school counselors can be of support.

Presenter Information: Dr. Derek J. Lee serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Counseling and Mental Health, School of Health Professions, at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC). Dr. Lee is also the founder and developer of The Hope Institute, where he continues to serve at CEO. The Hope Institute is a unique facility providing evidence-based treatment to those struggling with suicidal ideation. The Hope Institute now has locations in several states, with a growing evidence-base of effective outcomes. Dr. Lee's PhD is from Ohio State University and much of his clinical focus has been on suicide, self-injurious behavior, trauma, personality disorders, and substance abuse. His research has been focused on suicide; treatment, models, and theory; telehealth and access to care; and advocacy for counselors and mental health.

Additional Information: Pre-registration is required and will be open through the end of the day on August 8. A Zoom meeting link will be emailed out to all registrants the day before the workshop. A CE certificate will be emailed to those in attendance after the event.
